Obituary for Rose Ann Nigrelli

Rose Ann Nigrelli, 100, formerly of Pittsfield, died Wednesday, November 13, 2019, at Berkshire Place where she resided for the past several months.

Born in Wilmerding, Pennsylvania on July 29, 1919, she was the daughter of Italian immigrants Allesandro and Margharita Marcellino Trova. As a child, the family went back to Mombercelli, Asti, Italy for ten years and then returned to the United States in 1930, settling in Pittsfield.

Primarily a homemaker, Rose worked for England Brothers as a sales clerk at its Allendale branch until its closing in 1988. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by General Electric for nine years.

Rose was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and formerly of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she married Joseph Nigrelli on September 5, 1949. They were married for 57 years until Joe’s passing on November 18, 2006.

Rose was an accomplished sewer who enjoyed making clothes for her family. She was passionate about cooking and baking for family and friends, especially Italian meals. Christmas Eve will no longer be the same without her meatballs, braciole, pizzelle and torta. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan and would listen to games on the radio while cooking, working on craft projects or completing jigsaw puzzles. Rose was a kind and generous person. She was loved by everyone who met her and will be sorely missed.

Rose is survived by a daughter, Anne Nigrelli and her partner David Burdick of Pittsfield, a son David Nigrelli and his wife Marti of Virginia and their three children, Thomas, Matthew and Angela Nigrelli who affectionately knew her as Nonnie. She also leaves a sister, Angelina Trombley, of Florida and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Peter Trova, Louis Trova, and Emilo Trova.

The family would like to thank the staff at Berkshire Place for their care and compassion during her stay.
